Departing from Tel-Aviv or Jerusalem we’ll drives to south-east, towards one of the most famous archaeological sites in Israel.
We’ll pass alongside known places like the Good Samaritan, Judea Desert, Qumran, the Dead Sea & Ein Gedi oasis as we are heading to the fortress of Masada.
Quick refreshment and we’re out for a day full of adventures.
Masada is best known for the epic last stand of the zealot Judean rebels against the Tenth Roman Legion some 2000 years ago. The dramatic episode described by Josephus Flavius in his account The Wars of the Jews.
Built by king Herod to serve as his desert fortress, Masada is a UNESCO World Heritage Site occupying a breathtaking, strategic location high on a flat plateau above the Dead Sea, and symbolizes determination and heroism to these days.
Masada is also one of the greatest archaeological sites in Israel and, some says, worldwide. We will ascent the dramatic fortress with the cable-car. It’s a huge site, still excavated by the IAA (Israeli Antique Authority) and it’s highly recommended to listen and enjoy your guided tour here, so you can bring the historical remains into life. Discover the synagogue, the roman bath-house and the amazing water cisterns among others.
Some hours later we will head down – to visit the local store of Masada’s kin – Qumran. Here you can find the best Dead Sea cosmetic, and many other artifacts, vessels and memorabilia from the Judean Desert.
We’ll dine here as well, and then stroll to the nearest natural beach of the Dead Sea: to float and take selfie with the natural black mud at the lowest point on earth.
